TNF Week 2 Prop #1 – Herbert Passing Yards OVER 282.5 (-115)
We have a marque matchup in Arrowhead on Thursday night as the Los Angeles Chargers travel to Kansas City to face the Chiefs. Two of the league’s premier stars, QBs Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, will face off in what is anticipated to be a shootout in KC. The over/under is sitting at 54.5 in Chargers vs Chiefs odds, so the books expect these two teams to score.
I am looking to attack Herbert’s passing yards line here at 282.5 as my first Chiefs vs Chargers prop picks.
As 3.5-point road underdogs, I see this game being led early by KC, so Herbert will be firing on all cylinders early and often as he and the Chargers offense try to keep pace with the Chiefs.
In a primetime spot against a division rival, I don’t see Herbert flopping here. I expect KC to win this game, but Herbert will do everything he can to put points on the board and move the ball downfield. The Chiefs absolutely embarrassed a bad Arizona team but will have a much tougher matchup when facing a higher powered offense in Herbert and co.
Look for the young quarterback to move the chains and push the ball downfield on the Chiefs’ defense Thursday night in this AFC West showdown.
Pick: Herbert Over 282.5 Passing Yards (-115) at DraftKings Sportsbook
TNF Week 2 Prop #1 – Smith-Schuster Anytime TD (+140)
When taking anytime TD props at + money, feel free to scale down your unit size accordingly.
I’ll have a full unit on this particular spot, but do note that these bets inherently carry more risk, especially given the fact that Juju did hit the injury report on Tuesday. Monitoring his status as we approach kickoff Thursday night will be a must, but it is worth noting that he put in a limited practice Monday. If anything comes out where he will be limited, or not expected to see his full workload, I strongly recommend staying away from this type of bet.
I am writing this under the assumption that he plays with no limitations.
#Chiefs WR routes run on 41 Patrick Mahomes dropbacks Week 1:
* Juju Smith-Schuster 35
* MVS 35
* Mecole Hardman 27
* Justin Watson 9
* Skyy Moore 7— Adam Levitan (@adamlevitan) September 12, 2022
With that being said, let’s talk about some of the things that are going in Juju’s favor here. Patrick Mahomes put on a clinic against the aforementioned Cardinals on Sunday, throwing for 350+ and five touchdowns. Mahomes spread the ball around quite nicely, with touchdowns to Kelce, and Hardman, two to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and even backup TE Jody Fortson joined in on the fun with a touchdown as well.
With the Chiefs implied to score about four touchdowns here, I think it’s time for Juju to find the pay dirt for the first time in a Kansas City uniform.
Mahomes was looking his way often, targeting him eight times to connect on six of them for 79 yards. This was all in the first half, as the game was well out of reach in the second half.
If this game stays close, I think this very well could be the Juju breakout game. I like his over yards as well, but I will take the high-powered KC offense’s #1 WR to find the end zone Thursday night as one of my Chargers vs Chiefs props.
