Unless you’ve been living under the proverbial sports betting rock, chances are you’re familiar with PointsBet Sportsbook. One of the big boys in the sports betting market, PointsBet – NBC’s flagship sportsbook – has made a name for itself thanks to favorable lines, a quality customer experience, and unique promotions and features such as PointsBetting. We at OwnersBox decided to take a tour of PointsBet and test out its features so that you can get a point-by-point review of this quickly growing platform.
Where Is the PointsBet Sportsbook Legal?
While its origins are in Australia, PointsBet Sportsbook has made quite an impression in the United States and already has a substantial reach across 10 states.
New users can take advantage of an offer worth up to $2,000 in risk-free bets. PointsBet’s new-user offer is unique in that it’s broken up into two separate wagers. The first is a $500 risk-free bet on fixed odds bets, and the second is a $1,500 risk-free bet on a Pointsbetting wager. A risk-free bet means that if your first wager loses, you get site credit in the same amount to be used on another bet.
A fixed-odds bet is any bet that doesn’t use the Pointsbetting feature. Fixed-odds bets include moneyline, point total and point spread bets. Pointsbetting is a high-risk, high-reward feature that can lead to some big paydays or some huge losses. We’ll get into more detail on it below.
PointsBet Sportsbook Promo Code
|State||New User Offer||PointsBet Bonus Code|

The PointsBet bonus is available in all the states above. The brand has not expanded into more states across the US yet, but that’s the plan. For exmaple, Ohio online sports betting is expected to launch on January 1, 2023 and PointsBet has already started to applied for a Type A sports betting license.
PointsBet Sportsbook Bonuses
PointsBet Sportsbook has set itself apart from Caesars Sportsbook, BetMGM, and others in the sports betting market thanks to its numerous great promotions, including:
Name a Bet
As simple as it sounds. PointsBet allows users to request a bet they’d like to wager on, and the sportsbook prices it and makes it available. Note that PointsBet reserves the right not to make every named bet available, so while this is a great feature, not every user who names a bet will get to wager on it. Sometimes, the turnaround on creating the wager isn’t in time for the event.
No Rollover Requirements
If you take advantage of a deposit match bonus, you only have to wager that match once before you’re able to withdraw. Some other sportsbooks call this a “play-through” and require it up to 25x the original deposit, making it quite difficult for casual players to ever realize the full benefit of the bonus. PointsBet’s No Rollover feature is a huge boon for casual players who can make the most of every dollar.
Partial Cash Out
This is a nice twist on the traditional cash-out, which allows the user to take an early payout if it appears the wager will go in his favor. With the partial cash out option, you can take a portion of your available cash-out and use the rest to finish out the bet. Users can pocket some of their original stake and potentially win some additional money on their original wager. Who doesn’t love double-dipping?
PointsBet users accumulate rewards using the following structure:
- Fixed odds wagers: 1 point earned for every $5 wagered
- Parlay wagers: 1 point earned for every $1 wagered
- PointsBetting wagers: 1 point earned for every $1 wagered
Rewards can be redeemed for:
- 250 points = $2.50 Free Bet Credit
- 500 points = $5 Free Bet Credit
- 1,000 points = $10 Free Bet Credit
- 2,500 points = $25 Free Bet Credit
- 5,000 points = $50 Free Bet Credit
- 10,000 points = $100 Free Bet Credit
- 50,000 points = $500 Free Bet Credit
- 100,000 points = $1,000 Free Bet Credit
The PointsBetting feature is the sportsbook’s flagship promotion and the one that differentiates it from the competition. Essentially, you’re betting per point, and it works like this:
Let’s say you bet $1 on the Chiefs to cover the spread at -7 against the Broncos. The Chiefs win by 10, so you get a payout multiplier of 3x, which equals $3. The Chiefs won by three more points than the seven they needed to cover, and each additional point paid your stake.
Headed to the 'Pay Window' 🤑

Now let’s say the Chiefs lose by 15. In that case, you’ll lose 22x your initial stake, which equals $22. That’s because the Chiefs lost by 22 more points than what they needed to cover.
As you can tell, there’s potential to win and lose in a big way, especially if you’re betting more than $1 per point. PointsBet lets you lock in your maximum wager, so in this instance, you can select $2. In the first example, the Chiefs won by 10 which gives a max payout of 3x, but because you set the max at $2, you can only win that much.
In the second example, the most you can lose is also $2, so while you fell short of the max profit by $1 when the Chiefs won, you saved a $20 loss when the Chiefs lost big. Keep in mind that you must have at least the max amount of the wager in your account in order to make it. This will cover you if the wager loses.
PointsBet Sportsbook New York
New York online sports betting launched on January 24, 2022, and PointsBet was one of nine sportsbooks available to bettors in the Empire State. There are no retail locations for PointsBet in New York at this time but given the market has only been open for such a short time, we can expect PointsBet to open one in the near future.
For now, sports bettors at PointsBet New York can wager online on their favorite teams such as the Yankees, Mets, Knicks, Nets, Islanders and Rangers.
PointsBet Sportsbook Illinois
PointsBet Sportsbook only has retail locations in two states, Illinois and Iowa. That means that bettors in the Prairie State can visit the following PointsBet locations to bet in person:
- PointsBet Sportsbook at Hawthorne Race Course, 3501 S Laramie Ave, Cicero, IL 60804
- PointsBet Sportsbook in Crestwood, 13148 Rivercrest Dr, Club Hawthorne Crestwood OTB, Crestwood, IL 60445
- PointsBet Sportsbook in Prospect Heights, 1250 S Milwaukee Ave, Prospect Heights, IL 60070
Illinois sports bettors can also bet online and lay down some money on the Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs, White Sox and Bulls.
PointsBet Sports Betting App
PointsBet boasts a strong 4.7 rating on both the Apple App Store and Google Play, meaning users have had an overall positive experience with the sportsbook. We found that to be the case as well.
PointsBet boasts 18 different sports, which is right on par with other leading sportsbooks in the industry. All of the most popular sports like soccer, football, baseball and hockey can be found alongside sports like golf, tennis and snooker. In terms of bet types, PointsBet offers all of the traditional straight bets such as moneyline, point spread and point total as well as parlays and an extensive selection of futures.
PointsBet Sportsbook has a handy menu that lists options like:
- Live: All available events that are still going on
- Streaming: All available live bets that can be streamed through the PointsBet app
- Next Up: Offers eBay-style timers that show when an event is about to get started, with the events closest to starting listed at the top.
- Quick Parlay: An easy-to-use list of all available bets that can be toggled between sports to create a multi-sport parlay
- Featured: A list of all the most notable wagers, including promotional bets and tentpole events
Promotions & Boosts
PointsBet Sportsbook offers a nice selection of promotions that are unique to the sports betting industry. The selection of Daily Boosts is a rare area in which PointsBet is a bit lacking, but the high quality of promotions more than makes up for the lacking boosts.
PointsBet seems to take great care in offering lines that are comparable with other big books on the market, and oftentimes even more favorable.
All things appear to be in place and work in harmony. Placing a straight bet is simple and easy as is creating a parlay, depositing and withdrawing funds and contacting customer support.
PointsBet’s interface is modern and striking with a black background and sharp blue and red letters and numbers.
Overall Rating: 9/10
Users north of the border can use PointsBet too! Bettors in the Ontario online sports betting market can wager on the Raptors and Maple Leafs as well as the high-scoring Blue Jays. They have proven that it’s a global brand, and its reach into Canada is just getting started with PointsBet Ontario.
