3 Undervalued Players in NBA Contests
It’s late in the fantasy basketball season, which means two things when it comes to finding valuable players to pick up off the waiver wire or include in your OwnersBox NBA salary cap contests. The teams that are slipping out of contention for playoff spots may be looking to give a larger role to some of their players they’re looking to develop. The second being that with the time of year some players are banged up and could cede some minutes to rotational players.
Let’s look at three of the most interesting options you could start this week.
SF – Oshae Brissett ($18,000)
The Indiana Pacers currently sit at 20-40 on the season, firmly out of the playoff race and a focus on development and the 2022 NBA Draft. The 23-year-old Brissett has been getting some good runway as a result. He’s averaging 30+ minutes a night and 27.8 fantasy points in his last 5 outings. He’s been shooting it well from the perimeter this month and has always been impactful on the glass.
The Pacers have 4 games this week, two against the Magic and his final game of the week coming against the Pistons. Both these teams are in the bottom-5 in the NBA in defensive rating and allow opponents to shoot at a clip of 37% from three point range.
PF – Aleksej Pokusevski ($12,900)
The European forward is having a really up and down season. In the first half of the season his minutes were pretty consistently below 20 minutes a night and then found himself in the G-League. He’s back up with the big club and has been getting an uptick in minutes since his return on February 5th.
With his price being $4,300 per game he’s well worth the risk even if his minutes have bounced back and forth between 30 minutes and 20 minutes each night. His lack of production earlier this season was a result of poor shooting efficiency and since his return he’s finding the bottom of the basket. There is real upside with Poku as long as he’s finding the hoop considering what he can do in other categories.
PG – Cameron Payne ($13,200)
The Suns are going to be without Chris Paul for the rest of the season, creating massive value at the point guard position. Payne has been absent with a wrist injury and is expected to return this weekend. It’s something to keep an eye on as if he doesn’t return Aaron Holiday would be the starter and can be had at $13,500 this week.
He’s going against some undermanned rosters, especially at the point guard position in Utah, Portland and New York. The Suns are the best team in the NBA so whoever the point guard is will provide plenty of value. Paul was the best distributor in the league this season and Payne will have the opportunity to take over that role.
