The New York Islanders have been one of the biggest surprises in the Metropolitan Division and its mainly in part due to a complete change in styles. The Islanders of old are gone, and this new look Islanders team is high flying with chances going either way.
The New York Islanders are currently tied for 3rd place in the Metro division with 32 points.
The Islanders are scoring 2.9 goals per game and allowing 3.0 goals in their last 10 games. The once defensively astute Islanders now relies on goalie Ilya Sorokin, who has been one of the best goalies in the NHL.
The Islanders are giving up about 31 shots per game in their L10 and taking 31.7 in that same time period. This number goes up to 32 shots on goal allowed away from home, where they have struggled with a 7-6-0 record away this season.
The key stars to look at, aside from Sorokin are Mathew Barzal and Noah Dobson. Barzal has 28 points in 27 games, although only 3 of those being goals.

Jack Hughes is the star, but the Devils young core has all stepped up. Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes, and Jesper Bratt all have a point in 8 of their last 10 games, and all of them are at a point per game pace this season. Hughes has been the most consistent shooter and is currently 11th in the entire NHL is shots on goal.
Nico Hischier and Dougie Hamilton on the other hand have been incredibly consistent hitting their shots on goal at home and both are coming off a 5+ shot on goal game for both. With the Islanders being top 10 in shot allowed to centers, left wingers and Dmen, all of them would be fantastic targets to get shooting on Friday Night.

I expect the Devils to continue their good streak at home on Friday Night. The last time these two matched up, the Devils outshoot the Islanders 16-2 in the 1st period and ended up outshooting the Islanders 43-17 on their way to a 4-1 victory.
