TOP-5 BATTING LINEUPS IN MLB 2022
Who has the best batting order in baseball? We have seen many young rising stars in MLB, especially in the Toronto Blue Jays lineup with the duo of Bo Bichette and Vlad Jr. Here is a recap of the Top-5 offenses from the 2021 MLB season;
2021 MLB Team Runs per Game
1. Houston Astros – 5.34 Runs/Game
2. Tampa Bay Rays – 5.28 Runs/Game
3. Toronto Blue Jays – 5.22 Runs/Game
4. Boston Red Sox – 5.14 Runs/Game
5. Los Angeles Dodgers – 5.05 Runs/Game
Let’s dive into the top-5 best batting orders entering the MLB 2022 season.
5. Chicago White Sox
Projected 2022 Opening Day Batting Lineup
1. Tim Anderson, SS
2. Luis Robert, OF
3. Jose Abreu, OF
4. Yoan Moncada, 3B
5. Eloy Jimenez, OF
6. Yasmani Grandal, C
7. A.J. Pollock, OF
8. Gavin Sheets, DH
9. Josh Harrison, 2B
The Chicago White Sox will be entering the 2022 MLB season with a dangerous batting order full of speed and power. The White Sox will hopefully see healthy seasons from Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez, which makes this lineup better than last year. The addition of A.J. Pollock from the Dodgers in the Kimbrel trade adds good depth hitting for the White Sox and a solid 9 hitter in Josh Harrison.
4. Houston Astros
Projected 2022 Opening Day Batting Lineup
1. Jose Altuve, 2B
2. Kyle Tucker, OF
3. Alex Bregman, 3B
4. Yordan Alvarez, DH
5. Yuli Gurriel, 1B
6. Michael Brantley, OF
7. Chas McCormick, OF
8. Jeremy Pena, SS
9. Martin Maldonado, C
The Houston Astros had the best offense last year in MLB with 5.34 runs/game. I have slotted the Astros at 4 because of the departure of Carlos Correa, who consistently batted in the top of the order last season and was a valuable piece to this lineup. I am fully invested in the idea that Kyle Tucker will be able to fill Correa at the top of the order, but I worry about the Astros depth hitting. The combo at the bottom of McCormick, Pena, and Maldonado isn’t something to go wild about. I also worry about age playing a factor soon in Michael Brantley’s output, the career .300 hitter will be turning 35 years old this season. I still think this batting order is lethal, but I’m predicting a step back in 2022.
3. Boston Red Sox
Projected 2022 Opening Day Batting Lineup
1. Kike Hernandez, OF
2. Rafael Devers, 3B
3. Xander Bogaerts, SS
4. Trevor Story, 2B
5. J.D. Martinez, DH
6. Alex Verdugo, OF
7. Bobby Dalbec, 1B
8. Jackie Bradley, OF
9. Christian Vasquez, C
The Boston Red Sox have a very scary lineup that just got even scarier with the addition of Trevor Story from the Rockies. The Red Sox finished the 2021 season with 5.14 runs/game, which ranked 4th in MLB. Bobby Dalbec should take a step forward this season after playing his first full season last year, I also think we could see a breakout season from Verdugo who had a strong postseason for the Red Sox. Devers has positioned himself as one of the best power hitters in baseball. I am projecting the Red Sox to be in a lot of high-scoring games – since they have one of the worst pitching rotations in baseball.
2. Toronto Blue Jays
Projected 2022 Opening Day Batting Lineup
1. George Springer, OF
2. Vlad Guerrero Jr., 1B
3. Bo Bichette, SS
4. Teoscar Hernandez, OF
5. Alejandro Kirk, DH
6. Lourdes Gurriel Jr., OF
7. Matt Chapman, 3B
8. Cavan Biggio, 2B
9. Danny Jansen, C
The Toronto Blue Jays have fully invested in the idea of competing for a World Series title. The big 4 for the Blue Jays go head to head with the Los Angeles Dodgers as the best in MLB. The Blue Jays finished last season with 5.22 runs/game, which ranked 3rd in MLB. They traded for Matt Chapman in the offseason who should add good power-hitting depth. The Blue Jays were rumored in acquiring Jose Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians, but ultimately the asking price was too high. The Blue Jays will likely look to add a well-known lefty bat at the deadline this year.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
Projected 2022 Opening Day Batting Lineup
1. Mookie Betts, OF
2. Freddie Freeman, 1B
3. Trea Turner, SS
4. Max Muncy, DH
5. Justin Turner, 3B
6. Will Smith, C
7. Chris Taylor, OF
8. Cody Bellinger, OF
9. Gavin Lux, 2B
The 2022 strongest batting order is awarded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The addition of Trea Turner at the deadline last year and Freddie Freeman in the offseason makes this lineup absurdly strong. The Dodgers have a great combo of both power and speed, with multiple players who can steal bases such as Mookie Betts, Trea Turner, and Chris Taylor. Cody Bellinger had the worst season of his career last year, so we should see a bounce-back season. Bellinger hit 47 home runs in 2019!
