Season long fantasy has come to an end. It’s been one hell of a ride, particularly in the last month with covid spreading across the league like wild fire. However, fantasy football isn’t done just yet. OwnersBox weekly contests are still live and you’ve got one last chance to win some cash before the playoffs start. So here’s 3 players to avoid in week 18 fantasy football.
Amari Cooper ($6,100) – It’s been a bit of a rocky year for Amari, as he’s been quite the boom or bust play every week. He’s had 3 or fewer receptions in 8 of his 14 games, something that only happened a total of 3 times all of last season. The Cowboys get the Eagles this week and I don’t like that for Cooper at all. He’s going to be shadow covered by Darius Slay, who’s lowkey had an incredible season. On average he’s only allowed 2.2 receptions and 25 yards against per game, for an average of 5.4 fantasy points against opposing wide receivers. In his first matchup against Slay, Cooper only managed a measly 3 receptions for 26 yards, don’t expect too much out of him this week and definitely don’t put him in your lineup.
Rashaad Penny ($5,600) – Rashaad Penny has been on an absolute tear these past few weeks as he’s got 135+ yards in 3 of his past 4 games and 5 touchdowns over that span. This truly came out of no where as those 3 games are now his top 3 rushing games of his career and it seems he might be turning his career around after widely being labeled a bust. I’m still quite hesitant on him and think his production is extremely matchup reliant. In this 4 game span, 3 of his opponents were the Texans, Bears and Lions, teams that combine for just 9 wins all season and have the worst, 9th worst and 5th worst rushing defenses respectively.
The Seahawks got out to an early lead in all 3 games and because of that, were able to feed Penny at a very high rate. The one game he didn’t go off was against the division rival Rams, where he only managed 11 carries for 39 yards and no touchdowns, and the Seahawks trailed all game. This week, Penny and the Hawks take on the Cardinals, who boast the 11th best rushing defense and just a much better team overall. I don’t expect to see Seattle running the ball as much this week and Penny could be watching his team trail in this one for most of the game.
Jaylen Waddle ($5,900) – After going on an 8 game winning streak, the Dolphins playoff dreams came to an end last week after getting blown out by the Titans. A big reason for that winning streak, at least on the offensive side of the ball was rookie Jaylen Waddle balling out every week. He truly established himself as the WR1 and Tua’s go-to guy at any part of the field. And that’s why you’ve got to keep him out of your lineup this week.
The Dolphins get the Patriots this week, a team that is currently tied with Buffalo for the division lead and will certainly do anything they can to take back that title. One thing Bill Belichick is known for is his ability to take away a teams most valuable asset, no matter who that might be. He forces you to rely on your other weapons and I think that’s what he’ll do with Waddle. Expect a lot of focus and double coverage on him all game in a very frustrating matchup.
