It was just announced that BetFred Sportsbook has partnered up with Long Shot’s to open a retail sports betting location in Frederick, Maryland. BetFred Sports is a part of the bookmaker based in the United Kingdom. A majority of their wagers are taken over online, but they have a few other retail locations across the US. Long Shot has also played a major role in the Maryland online sports betting movement.
Once the new retail location is approved, Frederick bettors will be able to place their wagers as soon as the NFL season starts.
BetFred Sportsbook Opens Retail Location in Maryland
The new retail location will be located in Frederick, Maryland just across from Long Shot’s off-track betting and bar. Other sportsbooks such as Caesars Sportsbook, BetMGM, and FanDuel also have retail betting locations in Maryland.
Ever since sports betting was approved in Maryland, they have been working hard for it to launch. It is expected that Maryland online sports betting, as well as the new retail location, will be ready to go for the beginning of football season.

Long Shot’s and BetFred were both excited to partner with each other in order to bring online sports betting to Maryland. Long Shot’s stated, “this partnership will not only boost the local economy but enhance the education of our students”.
Pending approval Long Shot’s and BetFred will be taking wagers as soon as football season. BetFred is also hoping to become a regulated sportsbook once the Maryland online sports betting landscape has fully launched.

BetFred is working to become a legal sportsbook in Maryland, but they are also already legal in a few other states. Bettors can place their wages through BetFred in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, and Pennsylvania. BetFred already has a well-established retail sports betting business.
Maryland Online Sports Betting
Governor Larry Hogan has called upon the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC) in order to speed up the Maryland online sports betting process. The goal is to launch online sports betting in Maryland as soon as possible, so bettors are ready to place their wages for football. However, before the launch can be approved, there are a few more necessary steps.
When the law was being crafted, SWARC wanted to ensure the participation of women and minorities in online sports betting. Steps such as an increase in diversity are important when awarding sports betting licenses, according to SWARC. Until then, Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission has started working with businesses to help them understand what’s required so the SWARC application can be approved.
Kansas online sports betting is in line with Maryland’s timeline. KS sports bettors are hoping to place bets on the NFL when the season starts.
