What’s up, BETches?
Covid has deprived us of so much, patios, bars, hanging out with friends but most of all casinos have been closed for a year now.
If you are someone who loves gambling and feels like you’ve missed out on the colorful slots, I totally understand which is why I’m here to put a pep in your step. Sports betting is the new thing (ya, I know it’s not new), but it is for those who don’t do it.
Beginner bettors here’s all you need to know:
There are two types of bets you can make — single bets and parlays.
Single bets mean you bet one team and if that bet hits you win money. Parlays allow you to bet on multiple teams and all those bets must hit in order for you to get your return.
Now comes the numbers part, listen I’m not a numbers person so so I’m going to explain this as simple as possible.
Spread bets: this is the one that shows you +/- (and then a number)
Ex: if you see +7.5 for a team that means that if the team loses by 7 points or less, then you win your bet. So if the Kansas Chiefs are playing the New England Patriots and the final score is 21–26, the bet would hit. Now if you see -7.5 for the Patriots, that means the Patriots must win by 8 points. So if the score is 7–10 Patriots, your bet would not win.
Stay with me, this is the most complicated of the bets.
Moneyline/Puckline: this bet shows you +/- in the hundreds
This one is easy to follow and easy to bet. When you bet money line, you just need the team to win. Doesn’t matter by how many. If the game ends in a tie, it follows through to overtime.
Ex: when looking at these types of bets, you can ignore the numbers, that just shows you the odds of the return, what really matters is the plus and minus. If a team has a minus sign that means they are favored to win and if they have a plus that means they are considered the underdogs.
And I love betting on the underdogs.
Over/Under: this type of bet is combined scores of the game
Ex: over and under easy to follow. If a bet shows O48.5 this just means that both teams score has to be over 48.5. So if the Patriots ending score is 27 and Chiefs’ is 14, the bet would not hit because that is a combined score of 41. But if you bet the under, it would hit.
That’s all you need to know to start betting. Good luck and remember if you can’t join them, bet on them.
