TheScore Bet Dropping Out of US Markets Amid Domination of Ontario Sports Betting Landscape
theScore Bet currently operates in New Jersey, Iowa, Indiana, and Colorado sports betting markets. However, with how well the brand is performing in the Ontario sports betting landscape they will be removing themselves from the US markets. theScore announced they will be discontinuing operations on July 1st.
The urgency to download Ontario sports betting apps has slowed down a bit, however, theScore Bet has easily been the most popular since ON online sports betting launched on April 4th.
TheScoreBet Leads All Ontario Sports Betting Apps
Closing their sportsbook in US sports betting markets indicates that theScore will continue to work on their growth in Canada as a whole. Even though more established brands like BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, and others have launched in Ontario, theScore Bet is still the leader in the region.

Penn National Gaming completed a $2.1 billion cash-and-store purchase of theScore almost a year ago now. Penn clearly had plans to keep theScore and Barstool Sportsbook separate, and now they’re showing their cards with this move. Barstool is taking over the sports content and betting industry on the US side, while theScore Bet will continue to dominate the Ontario sports betting market.
To put things into perspective, theScore Bet app claimed 50% of the downloads since April 4th. The second most downloaded Ontario sports betting is bet365. This isn’t all that shocking considering theScore was a very popular application for regular sports fans, and bet365 was living in a grey area that Canadian bettors were able to use. This was under the same umbrella as online sportsbooks like Betway and Sports Interaction.
What’s Next for theScore Bet?
theScore Bet launched their platform for the first time in New Jersey. When New York sports betting went live, they did not partake as they were primarily focused on their Ontario launch considering all the massive players going into the Empire State.
Following its New Jersey launch, they started taking bets in Colorado, Iowa, and Indiana. With theScore Bet set to leave the US sports betting markets on July 1st, they will no longer be accepting deposits come June 15th.

As mentioned above, Penn National Gaming will turn their attention to Barstool Sportsbook north of the border. Unfortunately for theScore Bet players, users won’t be able to transfer their account or sports balance to the Barstool Sportsbook. That being said, the sports betting skins that theScore secured in those four states might also not transfer over to Barstool.
US sports bettors can kiss their theScore Bet accounts goodbye in a month as they continue to focus on their domination of the Ontario online sports betting markets. Other available sports betting apps include BetRivers Ontario, BetMGM, PointsBet, and Caesars.
