  • Read below for the latest OH online sports betting update

We’ve known for a few weeks now that Ohio online sports betting is a go, but the official launch date was still up in the air. That is until just recently when we found out that Ohio online sports betting will launch at midnight on January 1, 2023. The Ohio Casino Control Commission met and came up with this decision, so Ohio can start betting at the start of the new year.

Ohio Sports Betting Apps Launch Midnight on Jan 1st

With the Ohio sports betting launch happening right at midnight on January 1, 2023, Ohio is getting ready to place their bets.

Now that sports fans know when they can start betting, which sports betting apps will they be able to use?

Some of the big name apps Ohio can expect to see are BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, FanDuel, and DraftKings. These apps won’t be the only ones as we can expect to see many more roll in as the launch date approaches.

Executive Director Matthew T. Schuler also recently released why the launch is happening right at midnight. With the launch happening right at midnight, Ohio will be able to bet on West Coast games on December 31. This also includes the College Football Playoff Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona.

Ohio Online Sports Betting Licenses

It was revealed yesterday that there has been a total of 850 applications from sports books, companies, and just about anyone interested in Ohio sports betting. Applications are still open for any hopeful license applicants, but only until August 15. That being said, not all applicants will be receiving the same license.

For example, Type A and Type B licenses allow its holder to both in person or at retail locations, as well as online. Whereas a Type C license only allows its holder to operate at a self-service or clerk operated kiosk. There are many more licenses that applicants can apply for. However these are the licenses most sportsbooks such as Caesars, DraftKings, and other big name books will be applying for.

What’s Next For Ohio Online Sports Betting?

Since the announcement of the Ohio sports betting launch, many partnerships have begun to emerge. A few weeks back BetFred announced their partnership with the Cincinnati Bengals, but since then even more have developed.

The Cleveland Browns have teamed up with Bally Bet, the Cleveland Guardians have teamed up Bet365, and the list just keeps on going. With sportsbooks teaming up with some of Ohio’s top professional sports teams, there will be tons of opportunities for Ohio sports bettors. Ohio has multiple casinos as well as race tracks, and these are just another spot where Ohio sports fans will have the opportunity to place their bets.

These are just a few of things we can expect from Ohio sports betting, and even more news and updates will come as the launch date approaches.
