Lakers Have Their Sights Set On Westbrook
THIS JUST IN: The Lakers and Wizards are in talks of a blockbuster trade that would send former MVP Russell Westbrook to Los Angeles. The news of the trade was released by NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter:
The Lakers are near a deal to acquire Washington's Russell Westbrook for Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and a 2021 first-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

After suffering a playoff series loss to the Suns this year, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to make a big splash in free agency. Considering the NBA draft is tonight, it appears that the Lakers first-round pick could be a piece of the deal. According to multiple sources, Westbrook has voiced that he wants out of Washington and that his preferred destination would be the Lakers. Westbrook, a Los Angeles native who was a star at UCLA, appears to have has his sights set on teaming up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
What Are The Lakers Giving Up For Westbrook?
According to Adrain Wojnarowski, the Lakers are packaging a deal that would send Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, KCP, and a 2021 first-round pick to the Wizards. Kyle Kuzma and KCP have been members of the Lakers organization for years and have had their ups and downs with the team. Kuzma, who’s played for the Lakers for his entire 4-year career, averaged 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists a game last season. Harrell, who joined the team after winning 6th man of the year with the Clippers (2019-2020 season), saw minimal playing time towards the end of the season with Lakers.
Thoughts On The Trade
I believe this is a great trade for both sides. The Lakers have been outspoken in regards to their need for a top point guard. Westbrook, who is coming off a year where he averaged 23 points, 11 assists, 11 rebounds, adds an instant spark to this Lakers team. As a Lakers fan myself, I would love nothing more than to see Westbrook come home and join this Lakers squad. For now, we will wait on more details to be released regarding this trade rumor.
