Top 3 greatest baseball movies of ALL TIME! These are my personal favorites, you are free to argue with my picks in the comments.
3. “Moneyball” (2011)
Coming in at 3, we got Moneyball! I absolutely love everything about this movie, they did an awesome job showing us a behind the scenes look at the Oakland A’s organization. As a former baseball player who always aspired to be a general manager, I appreciated this style of film.
Brad Pitt was outstanding playing Billy Beane, but my favorite character was Jonah Hill who played Peter Brand. An all-time scene, when Billy Beane was talking to Mark Shapiro, Indians about making a trade and decided to recruit Peter to the A’s. Makes you think how many MLB teams have their own Peter Brand giving them deep analytics on which players are underrated.
The reason why Moneyball comes in at number 3 is because the movie is more for baseball minded individuals. Someone who doesn’t watch or play baseball would not understand a lot of the small elements of the film.
2. ” The Sandlot” (1993)
Let’s talk about a classic, the Sandlot brings back so many memories of my childhood. This is the first baseball movie I probably watched and enjoyed. The story line seems straight out of a W Network movie and I absolutely love it. Sandlot is great feel good movie that reminds you of your childhood.
The story of a neighborhood friend group playing baseball and running into trouble is GOLD. Sandlot could of 100% been my number 1, but I prefer Benchwarmers because of the comedy aspects.
1. “Benchwarmers” (2006)
Drum roll please …… BENCHWARMERS !!! This is an all-time movie, which makes me die of laughter every time I watch it. I have probably watched this
movie over 20 times and still die at certain scenes. The plot of this movie is great involving 3 older guys who decide compete against Little League Teams.
All of the Little League teams coaches are assholes, which reminds me of when I played minor baseball. Some of the greatest scenes include;
- The nickname scene at Pizza Hut when the opposing team’s coach calls Richie, “Richie Bitchy”
- The catcher scene with Richie when he says “You’re still fat”
- Ritchie’s brother pinch hitting and getting hit by a pitch.
- Carlos “I am 12” scene.
So many great scenes, hence the reason why Benchwarmers is my number 1 baseball movie.
