MLB Betting for April 20th
It has not been a good start to the MLB season for me when it comes to publishing picks. Yesterday Chris Archer notched 5 K’s, resulting in a loss on under 4.5 strikeouts. The Orioles blew a late inning 1-run lead, I really saw an opportunity for their bats to get going against Cole Irvin and it did not materialize whatsoever.
It’s a long season though, we’ll get back on the horse today and chip away at the deficit.
Guardians ML (-143) – Best Odds: BetRivers
Shane Bieber takes the ball for Cleveland in the first game of a double-header with the White Sox. The Guardians ace has been dominant against Chicago in his career, especially in 2021. In 4 starts he manufactured a 1.80 ERA with 32 strikeouts, the White Sox hit .169 against him.
Chicago deploys a heavy right handed lineup and as a result they’ve been mashing left handed pitching, hitting .316, but righties have had their way against them with just a .197 AVG.
Dallas Keuchel goes for Chicago, he can’t say the same as Bieber when it comes to his recent history against the Guardians. In his 3 starts in 2021 he issued a 6.61 ERA and 6 extra base hits, including 4 home runs.
I like Bieber to notch his first win of the season.
Philadelphia Phillies ML (-109) – Best Odds: BetRivers
The Colorado Rockies are off to one of the hottest starts in Major League Baseball, with a record of 8-3. They’ve also won the first 2 games of this 3 game set with Philadelphia.
For a lineup that regularly deploys 7 right handed bats they are crushing right handed pitching, 11 home runs and a .276 AVG in 254 at bats. Kris Bryant, CJ Cron and Connor Joe are hitting well above their career splits against righties.
I think the Rockies bats are overdue for some regression here and the Phillies have hit really well against German Marquez. Harper, Castellanos and Schwarber have combined to hit over .400 against the Rockies pitcher.
