Tonight’s Home Run Derby is slated to be quite the spectacle as the league’s top home run hitters are ready to take swings in the Mile High City. Since this is the only big-time sporting event this evening, it will undoubtedly be one of the most-watched Home Run Derby’s of all time. Not to mention, AL MVP favorite Shohei Ohtani is going to be drawing tons of eyeballs in his first Derby appearance.
In my opinion, tonight’s Home Run Derby presents lots of betting value for people who are looking to catch an edge tonight. See below for a few plays that I will be locking in tonight:
Matt Olson To Win The Home Run Derby (+700)
For +700, Matt Olson has tremendous value in my opinion. He is on the easier side of the bracket and wouldn’t have to face a guy like Shohei Ohtani until the final round. Olson also has a high average launch angle and an above-average home run distance. Due to these few factors, I believe Matt Olson might just come into Colorado and win this thing. Check out Olson’s Baseball Savant page here.
Shohei Ohtani To Win The Home Run Derby (+185)
I know there’s really not much I have to say here but Ohtani has been the most exciting player in the league this season. Watching what this man can do at the plate this year has been nothing short of incredible and if he went out there and won tonight and I didn’t take it, I would be mad at myself. For +185, I’m taking a run at Ohtani to win outright.
Prop: Longest Homerun Over 519.5 Feet (-125)
This bet is purely based on the fact that the ball will be absolutely flying out of the park tonight. Coors Field is the best hitters park in the league and I’d like to think with the field of hitters out there tonight, one of them will be able to surpass that number. If I’m wrong, I’ll wear this one, but I really don’t see this one missing.
