Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Pickup #1 – Reilly Smith – Vegas Golden Knights (LW/RW)
I know this cat is heavily rostered in most Fantasy Hockey leagues, but I can’t stress enough how good this guy has been. Vegas has kind of taken people by surprise with their offensive firepower. All those trades are starting to payoff despite their limited cap space.
Smith has five goals in his last three games, which gets him up to seven for the year with 12 points. He currently owns a 14.6 shooting % which is very sustainable, especially on this team that refuses to regress in the offensive end.
Smith has the highest expected goals rate on the team at 5.5 and has second most shots on goal with 48. Might be crazy to say, but on his current line, Smith could end up with the most goals on the Knights this year so that’s why he is a Fantasy Hockey must add and will be moving up my forward rankings.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Pickup #2 – Vince Dunn – Seattle Kraken (D)
Vince Dunn is also quite popular right now, but he’s on this weeks must adds because of his poor start. I think a lot of people either dropped him or were ready to get rid of him after logging two points in his first six games of the season.
The Kraken have won 4 in a row and now sit second in the Pacific. Vince Dunn has been a contributor to the success with a strong start to the season.#SeaKraken pic.twitter.com/13omjKv5me

Dunn has really improved in his last eight games with two goals and six points to show. There’s not too many times throughout the season when you’ll find a PP1 quarterback like Dunn on your Fantasy Hockey waiver wire. Not to mention, Seattle has a surprisingly good powerplay scoring at a 25.5% rate.
Dunn and Justin Schultz are easily the most offensive defensemen on the team and it shows as both guys points per 60 minutes above 1.5. He has 43 shot attempts, but just 18 shots on goal. If he continues to shoot at this rate, more pucks will end up getting through.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Pickup #3 – Miles Wood – New Jersey Devils (LW)
Miles Wood is a sneaky good pickup this week in my mind. Only 11% rostered in Yahoo leagues, but he has eight points on the season and four goals in his last four games.
So the one concerning thing with Wood, he has a low possible share of icetime and just playing time in general, but with how well he’s been playing I think that’ll change. I think Lindy Ruff is being smart with getting Wood back into the swing of things. I know he came into this season fully healthy, but he had hip surgery last year so I think there’s a good chance he’ll see an uptick in minutes.
Look at his numbers too, he’s currently second on the team in points per 60 minutes and has an expected goals per 60 rate of 1.46. His shooting % is 13 too, which is very sustainable on a team that generates a lot of scoring chances.
He’s third on the team in SOGs with 38, and has the second most high danger chances. So even with his little icetime, he’s been very efficient.
