Jason Robertson, $28,000 ($5900 x 3)
Roope Hintz, $22,000 ($5500 x 3)
Joe Pavelski $26,000 ($4900 x 3)
Jake Oettinger, $20,000 ($10,000 x 2)
The Dallas Stars first line of Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Joe Pavelski has been on fire lately. All three members of this Dallas line man the Stars’ first powerplay unit. All three members of this line are less than $6000 salary per game. All three members of this line comprise an absolute smash play as a lineup-choring line stack for this week’s Contest of the Week.
The Stars win last week against the Hurricanes demonstrated the true potential of this line as they combined for 8 points and 101 fantasy points in a 4-1 game. Line stacking has proven time and time again to be the best strategy for maximizing the upside of a lineup. The Stars’ first line looks to be the best option this league for a line stack as the salary and fantasy upside create tremendous value.
In net, the Stars seem to have found their number 1 in Jake Oettinger. Oettinger has matchups against the Coyotes and Kings this week at almost minimum goalie salary. Must start.
Rangers Stack
Ryan Strome, $17,200 ($4800 x 4)
Adam Fox, $28,000 ($7000 x 4)
Igor Shesterkin $26,600 ($12,300 x 2)
Ryan Strome is one of the more underrated players in the NHL. As an Oilers fan its unfortunate that he didn’t realize his potential with Edmonton, but I digress. Strome plays 5-on-5 with Rangers star Artemi Panarin and is the 5th member of a top powerplay unit that features Panarin, Zibanejad, Fox, and Kreider. Strome is a great option for a 4 game-opportunity forward this week at value salary of $4800 and matchups against Chicago (x2), Buffalo, and Colorado.
Continuing with the Rangers stack, Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox is the play of the week on defense with 4 game-opportunities, and a salary of only $7000 per game. While $7000 is a lot, its still $1000 less per game than the top priced defense options. Fox contributes in all categories that count for points in the OwnersBox scoring format as he block shots, is +9 on the season, shoots the puck, and of course, tallies goals and assists.
Continuing with the Rangers stack, goaltender Igor Shesterkin continues to impress in net for the Blue Shirts. Matchups against the lowly Sabres and Blackhawks represent opportunities to cash in wins and score fantasy points for this lineup. It is often worth paying up in salary at goaltender to get a good goalie on a good team with the promise of wins.
Penguins Mini-Stack
Jake Guentzel, $28,000 ($7300 x 3)
Kris Letang, $26,000 ($6600 x 3)
The Pittsburgh Penguins matchup this against Vancouver, Seattle, and Washington. Outside of Washington, the two game trip to the Pacific Northwest should certainly bring many goals for Penguins and provide opportunity for fantasy scoring. Guentzel is on an 11-game point streak and continues to be a value at only $7,300; compare that to Andrei Svechnikov’s $8,800 and you can see the value. Adding to the mini-stack is all-star defenseman and powerplay quarterback Kris Letang at a mid-priced salary of $6,600. Look for this duo to continue to shine both 5-on-5 and for the Penguins top powerplay unit.
Mr. Charlie McAvoy
Charlie McAvoy, $17,400 ($5,800 x 3)
The only member of this lineup from a team besides the Stars, Rangers, and Penguins is Bruins top defenseman Charlie McAvoy. Running cold lately with only 1 point in the last week, look for McAvoy to bounce back at a bargain salary of $5800 per game.
