5 Players to Avoid in Week 2
Mike Davis is cheap, and I would usually say to pick him for a week, but this week is not the one. As we saw on Thursday, the Bucs made people question if Zeke can play the running back position, I almost felt bad for the guy, but then I remembered that he plays for the Cowboys (no one likes the Cowboys). If Zeke can’t run for more than 33 yards… don’t expect Davis to run for 20 yards. A weak offensive line against an elite-run defense, nothing ever goes well. Also, the Falcons utilized Patterson, who had a better game than Davis, which was a shock. Until Davis and the Falcons offense start to show more talent, it is hard to select any offensive weapon other than Calvin Ridley for the Falcons.
Matt Ryan, $6,000 vs. Bucs
The time may have come where Matt Ryan is not a fantasy asset. Ryan threw for only 164 yards last week, he has a ton of weapons such as Ridley and Pitts to go to, but he failed to generate any points on the board. Ryan didn’t have a single touchdown against the Eagles who are not known for a good defense, so don’t bother selecting any Falcons players until they prove their worth. Ridley could be a decent start, but there are many other potential choices at WR and especially at QB. There are much better options for CHEAPER! Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, Ben Roethlisberger, and even Sam Darnold. All those options will perform better than Matty Ice.
DJ Chark, $4,800 & Laviska Shenault Jr., $4,800 vs. Broncos
The Broncos D is already looking like a top defense in the league. Fuller, Jackson, Darby, Simmons, and the rookie, Pat Surtain will be dominant against the pass. Trevor Lawrence may be the future of the NFL, but I don’t believe he will do much of anything against the Broncos. Lawrence struggled against a mediocre Texans defense, and I don’t see him playing any better against a much better Broncos defense. Chark and Shenault are solid players who will perform in many matchups but not this week. STAY AWAY FROM ALL JAGS RECEIVING OPTIONS.
Brandon Aiyuk, $5,000 vs. Eagles
I am beyond shocked that Aiyuk wasn’t even targeted last week. The rumor is that he has been dealing with a hamstring issue that hindered his performance. Hamstring problems don’t just disappear. They are horrible, and for a receiver that stops on a dime, do not risk Aiyuk. Samuel turned out to be the apparent number one on the team, and I see him and Kittle continuing to be the primary targets in that offense. Until Aiyuk shows up, I wouldn’t look at him for a long time. I would rather have DeVonta Smith, Marquise Brown, who are both at a more affordable price.
Kirk Cousins, $6,600 vs. Cardinals
Cousins had a solid week against the Bengals but DO NOT select him. Cousins is inconsistent, and he has limited upside against the Cardinals, who looked like a SuperBowl Contender last week. The Vikings should utilize Cook primarily overthrowing it downfield. Yes, Cousins will throw to Jefferson and Thielen often, but I don’t think he will produce enough to be worth his salary. I would instead save money and select Mayfield, Winston, or even any of the much cheaper options such as Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, Ben Roethlisberger, and Sam Darnold.
