5 Undervalued Players on OwnersBox
After 5 weeks of the NFL season I’ve learned quite a bit when it comes to optimizing your lineup on OwnersBox. The biggest takeaway for me is being able to spend up on a premium stack. In order to do so I need to find some players that are undervalued and at a low price. If these low priced players give me a great dollar per fantasy point value then I could potentially find a lineup that finishes with 200+ points. You’ll need that to win the grand prize in the $25k contest.
Without further ado let’s get into an undervalued player at every position this week.
Mac Jones ($5700) vs Dallas Cowboys
Mac Jones hasn’t exceeded 19 fantasy points on OwnersBox this season, as a result he is the 3rd lowest priced quarterback on the platform. I really like him this week against the Cowboys. The total is up over 50 points and the Patriots are 4-point underdogs. The Patriots already throw the ball with great volume, 65% of plays to be exact. I’d expect this to continue as underdogs.
This is a really good matchup for a quarterback that has been blitzed a lot this season. Jones ranks 25th amongst starting quarterbacks in time to throw. Now he goes up against a Cowboys defense that blitzes at the 6th lowest rate this season. This should give him plenty more time to throw against Trevon Diggs and Anthony Brown in the secondary. The two Cowboys corners are both inside the bottom 5 at the position in yards given up.
Jones is 4th in the NFL in completion percentage. His throws have been on target and with more time to throw he has the chance to hit on some explosive plays. At this price I can grab an elite QB in my SuperFlex spot.
Javonte Williams ($5100) vs Las Vegas Raiders
I could take the easy way out and say Khalil Herbert or Chris Evans (if Mixon is out). But these guys will be rostered by way too many fantasy players on OwnersBox because of injuries. So I am calling my shot on a Javonte Williams breakout game here at home against the Raiders. There are 25 running backs at a higher price this week and I think Javonte will be the best dollar for dollar play this week on the platform.
The split with Melvin Gordon still looms, there is no denying that. But Williams has been involved in all facets of the game. He’s gotten short down and distance, long down and distance, as well as the two minute drill. Vegas is bottom 6 in the NFL against the run and giving up over 20 fantasy points per game to the running back position. Williams has elite tackle breaking ability, he’s third in the NFL in missed tackles forced. This is a ridiculous stat as Williams only has 58 rushing attempts while the two players ahead of him (Henry and Chubb) have 142 and 90!
I’m taking the shot on a Williams breakout this week and at this price he is a must start in your OwnersBox lineups.
Nelson Agholor ($4300) vs Dallas Cowboys
I really like the Patriots this week, they will be a staple in all my lineups. Mac Jones and Nelson Agholor could be the most efficient stack on OwnersBox this week. Instead of going with Jones most high profile target in Jakobi Meyers I’ll go with Agholor as the team leader in air yards. I mentioned Jones could hit on an explosive play this week and Agholor could be the target.
Agholor is on the field for 86% of Mac Jones dropbacks and leads the team in average depth of target at 14.1. I’d also expect him to see more of Anthony Brown than Trevon Diggs as Jakobi Meyers is the main target for Mac Jones at a 25% share. Brown has been one of, if not the worst cornerback in the NFL this season.
Go get Agholor as a cost effective option this week. You can even stack him with Mac Jones and spend only $10k to fill two of your positions.
Amon-Ra St. Brown ($3600) vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Lions rookie has emerged as one of Dan Campbell’s favourite players, having over 70% route participation over the last 2 weeks. I’m not against grabbing a wide receiver on a bad team. As they are likely to find themselves in plenty of passing game scripts, the Lions are throwing the ball on 64% of plays this season.
St. Brown has been a safety valve of sorts for the Lions offense, with an average depth of target of only 7.5 yards. What sticks out to me is that over the last two weeks he’s had a 50% and 30% target share on third down. Meaning that in crucial conversion situations he’s the guy getting the ball thrown to him. In a matchup against the Bengals I’d expect the Lions to find some success in the pass game.
$3000 is the minimum player price on OwnersBox so Amon-Ra can return value with just a few receptions at his price.
Ricky Seals-Jones ($3700) vs Kansas City Chiefs
I talked about Seals-Jones in my waiver wire column earlier this week and he has to be brought up again as a start on OwnersBox. He’s at a great price, there are 16 tight ends priced above him. It looks as though Ricky will just be taking over Logan Thomas’ role completely. He was on the field for 82 of Washington’s 83 offensive snaps last week. Racking up 8 targets for 5 receptions and 41 yards.
I have Seals-Jones as my TE7 on the week. The Chiefs are the 5th worst in the NFL against tight ends in fantasy football, giving up 10.4 fantasy points to the position. With Curtis Samuel likely out and Dyami Brown dealing with a knee injury, the tight end might be Taylor Heinicke’s number 2 option this week. That’s about all I need if I’m trying to find a tight end not named Travis Kelce or Darren Waller.
