The PAC-12 conference is in shambles. College football realignment is going to change the sport as we know it. With UCLA and USC on the move to the BIG10 there is a cloud over the conference. But for now, everything remains the same, twelve teams will still be battling for the conference title. With the arrival of Lincoln Riley and the cast of transfers at USC the PAC-12 Championship odds are tight.

Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes were PAC-12 Champions in 2021 and they did in impressive fashion. Beating Oregon twice in three weeks by scores of 38-7 and 38-10. There are a number of teams that can realistically challenge Utah along with USC and Oregon. UCLA is coming off their best season since 2014, Oregon State also had their best season since 2013 and you can never forget about Washington as the top recruiters in the country.

Colorado sports betting is one of the few legalized states amongst the school’s in the PAC-12 conference. The Buffs are coming off the worst season they’ve had since 2015, having a 4-8 record, but their team total sits at 3.5 for 2022.

Washington State Valuable Longshot to Win PAC-12

The Cougars, despite letting go of their head coach Nick Rolovich due to vaccination issues, enjoyed a quality season in 2021. As a result, their interim head coach, Jake Dickert, was given the full time role. The Cougs, like any other team in college football, will deal with some turnover in 2022. But there is reason to be excited for that turnover.

Incoming transfer portal quarterback Cameron Ward is in my mind the most intriguing player in the country this season. At FCS Incarnate Word last season he threw for over 4,600 yards and 47 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions. Joining him at Washington State is his head coach Eric Morris, who is now the offensive coordinator. This offense should look a lot like the Mike Leach air raid of old, making for must watch TV this season.

The defense is Dickert’s side of the ball, so it will be good to get continuity there in scheme. The secondary has lost a few players to graduation but Dickert was able to go to the portal to fill in the gaps. The team is really excited about Daiyan Henley at the linebacker spot, who’s the new age type of linebacker that can help them tackle and defend the run while being able to play in coverage.

Washington State will have to play Oregon, USC and Utah in 2022 but two of those three will be on their home turf. If you’re looking to take a flyer on a team in the PAC-12 I don’t think there is any sense looking further down the PAC-12 championship odds board then Wazzu.

Utah the Target in Cluttered PAC-12 Betting Odds

The top of the PAC-12 championship odds are clearly cluttered, but as you sift through the rosters the Utah Utes have the best college football betting value. You can’t underestimate the losses of Devin Lloyd, Nephi Sewell and Britain Covey. But Kyle Whittingham still has the dynamic duo of Cam Rising and Tavion Thomas at his disposal.

The Utes were built to a degree that other teams in the PAC-12 just could not match. They bullied opponents by dominating in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Opponents had just a 2.8% sack rate and on defense they had the 11th best stuff rate. When you look at their two biggest adversaries in USC and Oregon they just don’t matchup.

We saw what Utah was able to do to Oregon in 2021. While USC has made some major splashes in the transfer portal with Caleb Williams, Mario Williams and Jordan Addison those players aren’t making stops on defense or protecting the QB. Meanwhile the Utes has 2021 defensive freshmen of the year Junior Tafuna stuffing opponents up the middle and three starters back on the offensive line.

Lincoln Riley’s trojans are getting a lot of attention but it’s the Utes that the most complete program in the PAC-12 at the moment. Don’t overlook the value of play between the trenches or get lost in the recognizable names. I’m betting on Utah to win the PAC-12 at +250 odds at BetMGM.
